PAOK seems unstoppable in these first few opening weeks of the Greek championship. The Thessaloniki team has claimed yet another win against a tough opponent, after they overcame the obstacle of Panathinaikos 2-0. This was the first loss of the season for Giorgos Donis’ youngsters who just didn’t seem to have the necessary  experience to face the circumstances of such a difficult game.

PAOK manager Razvan Lucescu chose Leo Jaba for his right wing and the Brazilian rewarded him with a wonderful performance as he upset the defence of the visitors on multiple occasions, setting up both goals for his teammates.

Panathinaikos was able to hold the score on equal terms for the first half, despite being on the back foot, however the second was an entirely different story, as the player who is turning out to be the major protagonist for the PAOK squad this season, Aleksandar Prijovic, took advantage of the cross from Jaba from the right to place the ball into the back of Dioudis’ net. Jaba offered another assist, this time to Limnios on the 76th minute, who doubled the lead for his team and crushed any hopes the visitors had to leave Toumba with a positive result.

AEK is starting to look more on form, as after a solid midweek performance – despite the loss against Bayern Munich – claimed a dominant 4-0 win against Aris. Manager Marinos Ouzounidis chose to leave skipper Mantalos on the bench for a much needed rest, however that decision only seemed to work in advantage of the champions as Boye opened the score early on, only to be followed by an additional three in the second half (two by Ponce and another by Livaja).

Olympiacos, on the other hand, is appearing to be treading on thin ice, with manager Pedro Martins not looking too safe in his position as his team was close to giving last placed Apollon their first points of the season. However forward Manos scored a most crucial goal to keep the Red-and whites alive in the title run.

Atromitos has given up first place after the eight first games of the season, having escaped with a 2-2 draw from Nea Smyrni against Panionios thanks to an own goal by defender of the home side Yaya Banana.

For day 9 of the Greek Super League, Atromitos will welcome PAOK in the match of the two top placed teams, Olympiacos travels to Thessaloniki to face Aris, while Panathinaikos welcomes AEK at the Olympic Stadium.

Currently PAOK is leading the title run with 22 points, followed by Atromitos who is in second with 20. AEK and Olympiacos are tied in third with 16.
