In what is the third world victory for Greece in an olympic sport this year, after Anna Korakakis and Lefteris Petrounias, Eleni Chatziliadou became world champion in Karate, winning the gold medal in the +68kg category.
Chatziliadou faced Japanese champion Ayumi Uekusa in the Karate World Championship held in Madrid, winning the rematch, as Uekusa had won in the 2016 tournament.
