The unusually heavy rainfall since Thursday on Lesvos island has seen several homes damaged, including part of the local infrastructure network, mainly roads connecting villages.

Meteorologists said it is the same lows moving up from the Peloponese, another area of Greece that has been hammered by gale-force winds and stormy weather and heavy lightning.

The epicenter of the downpour on Lesvos was in Gera and the surrounding areas, affecting the south east region of the island and especially villages Plomari and Plagia.

Apart from the damages houses have suffered, the refugee camp in Moria has also been affected with low temperatures and flooding making conditions even less livable.

Most of the problems on Lesvos were concentrated around the area of Gera on the southeastern coast and in the village of Plagia in the Plomari region.

The storm is expected to ease off Friday and Saturday.
