Yorgos Lanthimos’ newest film The Favourite has come out on top at this year’s British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) during the ceremony that took place on Sunday swiping 10 categories.

The Greek director won a record-breaking 10 gong set out of the 13 awards for which his black comedy was nominated.

The Favourite won Best British Independent Film and Best Director including Best Screenplay for writers Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara.

Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz also picked up the Best Actress and Supporting Actress prizes but the award-winning avalanche didn’t stop there.

Lanthimos’ masterpiece also smashed its way through technical categories, garnering Best Make-up and Hair Design, Casting, Costume Design, Cinematography and Production Design awards.
