A Greek Australian business owner reminds us that Christmas is above all a time of giving, by launching an initiative expected to reach over 100 families in need this festive season.

And rest assured there is no other motive involved other than putting a smile on the faces of children, whose parents due to financial difficulties cannot afford to buy them a Christmas present.

As the donor – who has preferred to remain anonymous – points out speaking to Neos Kosmos, especially for younger children receiving a gift at this time of the year is significant.

“Missing out on a Christmas present can be quite unpleasant and become a memory stuck in their mind for a while.

“For kids, not looking forward to Christmas presents is rather unusual, whether they still believe Santa exists or not. I think it’s something all kids are waiting for and they tend to discuss with friends about what presents they got, upon their return to school. So if they don’t get any, it’s not a nice feeling.”

All someone needs to do for their little one to receive the donation is send an email (address specified below) explaining their situation, along with the age of the child, the present they would like and their contact details.

Any information received with the application is guaranteed to be kept strictly confidential.

In fact, the person behind the initiative explains that the sole purpose of asking people to briefly explain their situation is to make sure communications are honest.

“We’re not going to be asking any further details, we trust that peoples’ requests are truthful”, says the donor stressing there is no intention to judge a family’s conditions.

Asked about what prompted the idea, the reply given by the good Samaritan sets the example not only for other business owners but community members in general who have the resources to help on such a scale.

“I wanted to help a large number of families and I thought that this can be another good way to reach out to many kids and give directly to families in need instead of say making a donation to a charity”.

You can submit your request for the Kids’ Christmas presents donation via email at stan@gvpfabricators.com.au by the end of this week (Sunday 23 December).
