A South Australian family lost their home in a blaze, but feel indebted to their Greek Australian neighbour who fearlessly rushed to the flames.

Kostas Stefanidis saw smoke coming from his neighbours’ house at 2am on Saturday. He immediately rushed to the scene with a hose and began to fight with the flames until firefighters arrived to the scene.

Despite efforts by 30 firefighters, the house was swallowed by  the blaze, resulting in damages worth $350,000, however Mr Stefanidis’ speedy reaction was helpful and ensured that authorities were alerted as soon as possible.

“I have known the owners since I was a small child, and I considered it my obligation to help,” Mr Stefanidis said.

The family were lucky to not be at home when the fire started. The cause of the blaze is still unknown.
