Ryanair’s epic fail of redirecting a London-Thessaloniki flight, to Timisoara in Romania instead became a meme last week, with people across the globe turning “For Ryanair it’s not about the destination, it’s all about the journey” into a viral slogan.

Even though, according to the Irish low-fare carrier, the decision was made based on harsh weather conditions in Greece, passengers were caught off guard.

With negative publicity around the airline at an all-time high, Ryanair’s board has announced that it will be stopping its domestic service linking Athens with Thessaloniki, ANA-MPA reported.

The last flight linking Greece’s two main cities will take place in March 2019 while ticket sales for flights originally scheduled from April onward have been halted already.

Despite the Thessaloniki-Athens being the most popular domestic flight for Greece, Ryanair has announced that it is making a conscious decision to shift its focus to international flights to and from Greece.

As of March, the carrier will only be conducting two domestic services, the Athens-Hania and the Thessaloniki-Santorini links.
