The Kasterllorizian Council of Australia is hosting its 2019 Conference this month in Sydney.

Taking place over three days from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 January at the Bonnie Doon Golf Club, this year’s theme is ‘Going Back to Our Roots’.

“When we move away from our homeland and on to ‘bigger and better’ things, we often forget who we are and where we came from,” acknowledges the Council.

“Instead of forgetting where we came from let’s embrace it; embrace the tiny island Castellorizo, our ancestral home…” And the Conference will set out to help attendees do just that.

The program has been organised with a thematic stream of talks, presentations, exhibitions and documentary film screenings, each of which will focus on migration, migrant populations, diasporas and the wider impact of human mobility.

It will also provide a forum for discussion, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Among those speaking at the Conference are Dr Nicholas G Pappas AM; Costa Vertzayias AM; Anna Koutsis; Victoria Kazaglis-Gallagher; Marilyn Tsolakis and Michele Kiosoglous.

The Conference will also see the launch of Castellorizian Migration Stories, a new book by the History and Archives Committee of the Castellorizian Association of NSW.

A valuable resource, it documents and shares the personal and familial migration stories of members of the Castellorizian community of New South Wales, featuring precious anecdotes and photos telling the stories of where they came from, what shaped their lives and the importance of friendship.

The Kastellorizian Council of Australia 2019 Conference is on from 25-27 January at Bonnie Doon Golf Club (38 Banks Avenue, Pagewood NSW). To register, visit http://kazziecouncil.org.au/  For all enquiries, email sydkca@gmail.com
