Multicultural media organisations and their journalists will be recognised for their contribution to their respective communities and to the wider Australian community at an awards event in September this year.

Labor MLC Shaoquett Moselmane announced this week that the award was initially due to be launch in early 2013, but positive feedback from community media outlets resulted in the awards event to be moved forward. The event will now be held on September 14 at NSW Parliament House.

“Since I proposed the Multicultural Media Awards last June I have been inundated with emails and phone calls from media outlets asking for further information, and when entries would open,” Mr Moselmane said.

Nominations for the Multicultural Media Awards are now open and the award categories are follows: Multicultural Journalist of the Year, Contribution to Social Inclusion and Multiculturalism, Coverage of Community Affairs Abroad, Coverage of Community Affairs in Australia, Coverage of Indigenous Affairs, Editorial/News Reporting, Investigative Reporting/Feature Writing, Multicultural Photographer of the Year and Online Innovation in News Blog or News Website Design.

Nomination entries close on Monday 13 August.
