Perth Glory appear to be set on claiming victory for the first time ever this season.

Tony Popovic and his men played a convincing game on Sunday at the AAMI Park against current champions, Melbourne Victory, where they walked away with the 1-2 result.

This win, combined with Sydney FC’s shocking 2-1 loss in Brisbane, has now raised Glory’s lead from second-placed Victory to seven points and third Sydney to eight, making them favourites to clinch first place in the regular season and head into the play-offs with the home advantage.

Yet Chris Ikonomidis and his teammates don’t appear to be taking their foot off the pedal as they get ready to welcome the Brisbane Roar on Saturday and will be expected to claim yet another three points.

Meanwhile, Sydney FC should have a comfortable afternoon at home against the Mariners.

The battle for fourth is also heating up, with Adelaide, Melbourne City and Wellington vying for a better place in the play-offs and three points separating the three clubs.

United were unlucky to walk away with the 1-1 draw against the “citizens” last weekend and now they will be looking for the win against the disappointing Wanderers.
