Western United are continuing their signing of Greek players, as 22-year-old Jonathan Aspropotamitis is currently considering their offer.

The young defender’s one-year contract with the Central Coast Mariners is set to expire in May and while Mike Mulvey’s club have already prepared an extension proposal, “Aspro” isn’t too keen to put pen to paper, considering the Sydney club’s poor performances.

Instead, he seems to be more intrigued by the opportunity to play at a brand new franchise besides a marquee Greek player such as Panagiotis Kone.

The people at Western United would like to build their defensive line up around the hopeful youngster, which is yet another reason that the Greek Australian might be tempted to sign with them.

If he does, that would possibly make him the third player of Greek descent to join the club, since Kone has already agreed to a two year deal, while Adelaide United’s Apostolos Stamatelopoulos is also close to inking an agreement according to credible sources of Neos Kosmos.

Furthermore, former NPL manager John Anastasiadis will be joining the Geelong-based club in the position of senior assistant coach, raising the Greek presence at United up to four.

Jonathan Aspropotamitis began his professional career at the Western Sydney Wanderers in 2015, before switching for the Mariners three years later.

He has also represented Australia at the under-20 and under-23 level, as he is considered to be one of the greatest young talents that local football has to offer.

Besides the three aforementioned players, Western United have also completed the signing of Australian full back Josh Risdon from the Wanderers.
