The official launch of the 37th Greek Festival kicked off on Thursday and all is set for Tumbalong Park at Sydney’s Darling Harbour to be transformed into a mini-Greece this weekend.

The two-day event kicks off at 3pm today and is set to showcase the very best of Greece as well as Greek-Australian culture to a broader audience in a truly amazing multi-cultural celebration. At the opening, Harry Danalis, President of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW said that the event is important for the “Greek community and the wider Australian community.”

Entertainment will be plentiful. After Eleonora Zouganeli’s incredible performances at the Lonsdale Street Greek Festival last week and last night’s show at the Rockdale Town Hall, she will perform at the Darling Harbour Stage on Sunday.

Melbourne’s audiences enjoyed the versatility of Zouganeli’s voice, with singing that is both “cool and warm, deep and airy, youthful but also seasoned, evocative of a wisdom that goes beyond her age.”

Melbourne’s Cats and the Canary will also take to the Sydney stage along with other local bands. Dancing will be aplenty as the best Greek and Cypriot dancing schools give performances featuring dances from around Greece.

Foodies will delight in the festivities with stallholders featuring the best of Greek cuisine from staples like souvlaki to sweet delicacies such as loukoumades and baklava.

Stalls will be buzzing with all that it means to be Greek while some lucky people will even win tickets to Greece.

The weather is amazing, so naturally crowds are expected to roll in to the best yet Greek Festival of Sydney.
