Greek long-jumper Miltos Tentoglou won gold at the European indoor championships in Glasgow on Sunday.

Tentoglou, who will turn 21 in 15 days, moved to the lead in his second try after starting the comp with a disallowed jump. His second attempt was at 8.12 metres, after a disqualified third jump, he  jumped 8.16 metres.

The fifth effort at 8.38 metres, not only put him in the lead but was also the world’s best long jump performance for 2019 to date.

Tentoglou did not bother taking the final jump. Swedish Thobias Montler who jumped 8.17 metres took the silver, and Serbian Strahinja Jovancevic winning bronze with a 8.03m jump.

Other Greek athletes who were successful in the European Championships included Voula Papachristou who took second place in the women’s triple jump with 14.50 metres. Costas Baniotis came second in the men’s high jump with a 2.26 metre-high leap.
