Lakeside Stadium, one of Victoria’s premier football grounds, is a fitting venue for this Saturday’s Pelada Cup final between high flying Women’s Premier League teams Bundoora United and Box Hill United.

The final for Victoria’s state-wide knockout cup competition for women is a culmination of almost five months of football and brings together two teams that have been rivals all season.

The journey to Lakeside Stadium has been one of excitement and memorable moments with 159 goals scored so far in just over 3000 playing minutes; meaning that on average a goal was scored every 19 minutes and 15 seconds!

With Box Hill having sealed the WPL Minor Premiership, Bundoora will be hoping to claim a win for the trophy, but also to be the first team to defeat Box Hill in all competitions so far after coming closer than anyone else in Round Five of the league with a 2-2 draw.

Like any cup competition, the Pelada Cup had its fair share of giant killing exploits this season with Altona City being the most notable. Coming ever so close to an unlikely final appearance after an impressive string of victories, Altona knocked over no less than two WPL teams including defending Champions South Melbourne; not bad for a State League One outfit!

In a rarity for Lakeside Stadium, the doors will be open with free entry for all – so if you are yet to explore the recently re-built venue and you enjoy a spot of football, then take advantage of the Pelada Cup final and enjoy the day.

The match kicks off at Lakeside on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
