Professor George Paxinos AO from the University of New South Wales will give a lecture on “The Contribution of Greeks in the field Neuroscience” this September.
The lecture, presented by the Ithacan Philanthropic Society, will discuss neuroscience at its infancy, from the pre-Socratic era, through to and including the period of Von Economo.
Professor Paxinos was born in Ithaka, Greece and completed his studies in America, and attending prestigious universities like UCLA Berkeley and Yale.
He has authored 160 research papers and 42 books, including the Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates, which is ranked the third most-cited scientific book of all time.
He is the president of the Australian Neuroscience Society and was elected into the prestigious Athens Academy in the Positive Sciences category this year.
The lecture will be on Wednesday 12 September, at 7:30 pm and will be held at the Ithacan Philanthropic Society Clubrooms, 2nd floor, 329 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne.
