On Sunday, Melbourne’s Cypriot Community came together to commemorate the fallen heroes of the fight for Cyprus’ liberation from Britain between 1955-1959.

Taking part was the Justice For Cyprus Coordinating Committee SEKA and students from the Zenon Education Centre.

The touching program was coordinated by Katie Georgiou, with participants including the High Commissioner of Cyprus, Martha Mavrommati, composer Christos Ioannidis, and Zenon director Andrea Garibaldi.

Students recited beautiful songs and messages for the fallen heroes. Mrs Mavrommati addressed those gathered, especially the children, and spoke with deep emotion about the heroes and sacrifices made.

Recently appointed SEKA president Eleni Efthymiou also gave a speech, delivering her own heart-felt message about the fight for Cyprus’ liberation, one that continues today as the country remains divided.
