Manasis School of Greek Dance and Culture are yet again hosting their annual dinner dance for students, family and friends. Last years dance saw over 700 people attend, and this year, they are holding a jam-packed program filled with colour, dance, and music, making it the biggest glendi of all.
Throughout the evening the school will showcase over 300 performers, presenting dances from all regions of Greece, in traditional costumes. The evening will also present the famous ‘evolution’ bracket by the Senior Dance Group, as well as other performances from students as young as three years of age. New routines from our mainstream dance classes will also be presented, from regions such as Pontos, Thrace, Macedonia, Epirus, Thessaly, Central Greece, Peloponnese, Crete, Cyprus and the Greek Islands.
All night long, DJ Chris will keep everyone on their toes, with the best mix of traditional and modern Greek glendi style music. In conjunction with all this, the 12 piece Manasis Band, along with other guest musicians, will present the traditional style folk music; Macedonian and Thracian with live gaida (bagpipes); Pontian with live touloum and daoulia; Epirotic, Tsamika, Kalamatiana and all dimotika with live klarina; rembetika pre-event floorshow in the foyer; Tsiftetelli belly dancing with live zournades and daoulia; zembekika with live bouzouki and plate-breaking.
Upon entry, guests will be treated to a cultural exhibition, a photographic showcase of the past three decades of dancing at Manasis. Furthermore, with the generous donations of our supporters and sponsors, our school’s raffle draw will give away over $4,000 worth of prizes on the night!
