Foreign-based Greek scholars are invited to apply for the Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program (GDFP) run by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) in collaboration with the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the Fulbright Foundation in Greece.

The program gives selected fellows the chance to conduct research, mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research, and design new curricula. The main aim is to further collaborative academic exchange among Greek scholars worldwide.

The initiative, run exclusively by the SNF, aims to make the most of the brain drain Greece experienced in the wake of the economic crisis in 2008. SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos hopes that the program can make use of one of Greece’s greatest assets – the pool of talent, knowledge and experience held by Greeks of the diaspora.

It is hoped that top scholars from abroad would work with Greece to teach and mentor students, conduct research and help the country so that the brain drain can be turned into something positive, contributing to global intellectual circulation.

After the end of the program, past alumni have continued to work with the institutions and scholars that hosted them.

Scholars are urged to visit the “How to Apply” section on the GDFP website. Applications are accepted until 31 July 2019. Another application cycle will follow from 15 August 2019 to January 12 2020. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is not involved in the review of applications or selection of participants in any way.
