The first Kazzie Agora Market Day kicks off in Western Australia on Saturday, 11 May.

The theme is the Ancient Agora, and there will be plenty of initiatives aimed at evoking the atmosphere of the public meeting spot of city-states of Greek antiquity.

The Castellorizian Association is hosting the market as a celebration of Greek culture, food, music and dancing – and aims to revive the marketplace as a space for the exchange of goods and ideas. For this reason, philosophers – such as Socrates and Plato – will be walking among visitors, bestowing millenia-old words of wisdom and sharing sayings from the ancients.

Chefs will present cooking demonstrations and there will be many delicacies to buy, suitable for Mother’s Day offerings. Youngsters will be able to listen to Aesop’s fables, make Greek masks, and enjoy dances performed by children from Mt Hawthorn Primary and St Andrew’s Grammar.

Visitors will also be able to meander through the Castellorizian House, a federation-styled building that is headquarters to WA Kazzies and of importance to the local community.
