It turned out to be quite the easy weekend for the Spartans.

The Hawthorn club were prepared to face Old Ivanhoe at Rathmine Reserve on Saturday, however the visitors were plagued by injuries and suspensions, leaving only a handful of players available for the game.

This of course meant that Old Ivanhoe did not meet the necessary requirements set by the league to be considered eligible to play, so they were left with no choice but to forfeit the match.

This win keeps the Spartans clear on second place, with a better goal percentage than Williamstown.

This Saturday they will meet with their rivals, the Old Xaverians for the seventh round of the competition, with the game being held at 11.40 am at Stradbroke Park in Kew.

It’s worth noting that the Old Xaverians were the other team to be promoted to the higher division alongside the Spartans.
