A series of performances in the upcoming weeks guarantees Australian audiences a genuine Greek musical experience.

Christos Dantis is the first to hit the stage with Saturday’s Melbourne concert following his appearance in Sydney on Friday.

Fans were quick to rejoice in hearing the news, given his concerts Down Under follow a 14 year hiatus. The singer himself was also looking forward to the return, and for good reason as he revealed in a recent interview with Neos Kosmos when asked about his tours outside Greece.

“I always remember the reaction of the Greeks in Australia and the US; I always feel and know how sincere they are toward to Hellenism and their heritage, their reaction is like being more Greek than us in Greece. That is the highlight that I remember”.

Since the first years of his rising popularity in the 90’s, Dantis is said to have left his mark on the country’s music scene, focusing mainly on the pop-rock scene but also exploring contemporary versions of laiko.

Cypriot composer and ‘creator’ of hits Giorgos Theofanous and colleagues Notis Sfakianakis, Giannis Parios and Dimitra Galani were among the industry heavyweights he collaborated with while he has 20 studio albums under his belt.

Notably, he also wrote the Eurovision song ‘My Number One’ for Elena Paparizou which won in 2005.

Powder PR, one of the companies involved in promoting Dantis’ tour has also worked with Crown Melbourne to bring a stellar line-up of three talented artists in joint concerts on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June: Stamatis Gonidis, Peggy Zina and Cypriot Giorgos Papadopoulos.

“Gonidis and Zina are long-term legends of the industry and Papadopoulos is [a] bright star on the rise. Together they will deliver a dynamic and energetic show that will be sure to please their many fans,” says Powder PR director Elizabeth Kokkinakis.

Following the announcement of the shows, the response from Melbourne’s Greek community has been overwhelming, explains Ms Kokkinakis and adds: “There will be something for everyone in this show. All three artists are very excited to be putting together a high energy experience where the fans will get to hear a mix of hits from their careers and those from some of Greece’s most popular artists as well as some new releases.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday 9 June also performing in Melbourne will be Greece’s superstar Anna Vissi, in a much-awaited concert by fans since her last Australian tour in 2014.
