The funeral service for Courtney (Konstandina) Amber Herron, 25, murdered at Royal Park on the weekend will take place at the Holy Church of Saint Dimitrios on Monday, 3 June 2019, at 10.30am. A burial will follow the service at Northern Memorial Park, Mitchell Section, Box Forest Road, Glenroy.

The family are grief-stricken following the young woman’s murder and released a statement on Monday expressing that they are “heartbroken”.

“The loss has devastated our entire family,” they wrote.

Her parents Metaxia Antoniou, father John Herron and siblings Christos and Ioanna were described by friends of Courtney as a “caring Greek-Aussie family”.

A Go Fund Me page had been set up by the Melbourne Homeless Collective to raise money for the funeral expenses in order “to save her family from further grief of having to find funds to bury their daughter.” In less than 24 hours, the $10,000 goal was surpassed as people made their contribution.

The family has asked for donations to be made to Frontyard Youth Services instead of flowers and wreaths.

Homeless man Henry Richard Hammond, 27, fronted court on Monday facing charges for the murder of the young girl. Courtney and Hammond may have left a party together just hours before her death, according to a report in the Herald Sun. He appeared barefoot and with one black eye at Melbourne’s Magistrate Court. His lawyer outlined his mental health issues and the case has been adjourned to 16 September.
