The Book Of Vilah an original dramatic monologue with accompanying songs will be performed in Parramatta, Sydney next week.
Written and composed by Sydney-born Valerios Calocerinos, the story is inspired by the rich history of the island of Kythera, with Calocerinos drawing on stories of his ancestors’ lives, folklore and accounts of pirate attacks for inspiration.

The Book Of Vilah will be performed by Calocerinos’ four-piece acoustic band: Pietro Desiderio – vocals, Claudio Iacono – bouzouki, Valerios Calocerinos – double bass; and Pedro Courtelis on classical guitar.

The band has generated a loyal following in Sydney in recent years, with a hybrid repertoire of classical and contemporary music, always with a Greek element.

The Parramatta show will be the first time that The Book of Vilah has been be performed in its entirety, after performing a cut-down version at the launch of the Greek Festival of Sydney in 2010 to a 3000-strong crowd.

Plans are underway to take the show to the Edinburg Fringe Festival in 2013 and to develop it as a feature film.
