The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) made history this week as the first state university in Greece to offer an undergraduate course entirely in the English language.

Announced on Wednesday, the four-year BA is based in the university’s School of Philosophy and devoted to the study of Greek Antiquity. The multi-disciplinary course offers subjects on Archaeology, History, Literature and Modern Greek.

Students will have the chance to take field trips to archaeological sites and museums within Athens and around Greece to the Peloponnese, Central Greece and Macedonia, as well as the islands of Santorini, Naxos, and Crete.

Offered in collaboration with the International Hellenic University, it is exclusively aimed at non-EU students.

“I am very proud of EKPA’s initiative, which proves that Greek universities can ‘spread their wings’ abroad,” said Minister of Education, Niki Kerameus.

The course is made up of eight semesters over four years, with up to 100 students accepted per academic year. Course fees are €6,000 (AU $9,800) per academic year.

Set to launch in September 2020, registrations are expected to open in January 2020.
