A statue of the Agapanthus flower, designed by Emily Karanikolopoulou adorns one of the key routes into Frankston.

The statue of the flower was unveiled close to the Eastlink Freeway last Friday. Its design was conceived by Ms Karanikolopoulou who teaches Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. She worked in partnership with sculptor John Mead and both were inspired by the flower. The statue title, Love Flower, derives from the Greek origin of the name which literally means “The flower of love.”

Eleven years ago, Ms Karanikopoulou won the first prize at Melbourne International Flower and Garden Exhibition and she drew on her rich experience to design the sculpture.
The work that replaces the statue of a giant goblin is positioned to also be visible to passersby on Cranbourne Street.
