Following a successful exhibition at the Dom Museum in Vienna, Austria, renowned artist Nikos Kypraios will be exhibiting his Byzantine icons in Singapore next year.
Interiors of the Soul: The Byzantine Icons of Nikos Kypraios, offers contemporary viewers an inextricable chance to explore art beyond the superficial. In this rich, exquisite series of oil paintings, magnificent images including Virgin Mary, Prophet Elias, St George and St Michael emerge from Nikos’ canvases, providing viewers with an intimate opportunity to look into the interior expressions of one’s soul.
The series has travelled the world with exhibitions in Athens, Samos, Patmos, Australia, as well as the Leepa Rattner Museum in Florida, USA. 26 works on display at the Leepa Rattner Museum were acquired by hotelier, Richard Kessler, and donated to a Lutheran Church Learning Institution in Georgia, USA.
Nikos Kypraios was born on the Aegean island of Samos, Greece in 1944. In 1960, he left the island for Athens, where he studied and worked in the field of graphic arts. He was inspired at this time by the Aegean landscape and Byzantine art.
In 1972, during the period of the military junta in Greece, Nikos and his family immigrated to Melbourne, Australia where he focused on his artistic development. Although the choice to migrate was a forced one, the artist was most fortunate as his work blossomed in Australia’s inviting environment and he was rewarded with over 20 personal exhibitions at such prestigious galleries as Holdsworth Gallery (Sydney), Pinacotheca (Melbourne), Cooks Hill Gallery (Newcastle), Barry Stern Gallery (Sydney) and Australian Art Resources (Melbourne).
Nikos’s work has been exhibited globally including New York (Kouros Gallery), Nicosia, Cyprus (Gloria Gallery). Athens and Vienna. His works are in public, corporate and private collections around the world including the Marc Chagall Museum (Belarus), Valartis Bank (Austria) AG and the Leepa Rattner Museum (Florida, USA)
The artist now divides his time between his studios in Athens and Samos in Greece as well as travelling extensively around the world both for exhibitions, but also to seek further inspiration.
