Interested individuals, organisations and brotherhoods are invited to be part of a new wider committee that will focus on planning and preparations for the celebrations in Sydney to mark the 200th anniversary of the Greek struggle for independence from the Turkish empire.

The celebrations committee has been formed following a recent meeting of the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales.

So far, the special committee consists of Harry Danalis, Michael Tsilimos, Nia Karteris, Christos Belerhas, Professor Vrasidas Karalis, Efhtymios Kallos, Helen Vatsikopoulos, Leonard Janiszewski, Effy Alexakis and Lex Marinos.

The committee discussed the programme of events that includes: a recital of National Anthem of Greece by Dionysios Solomos in conjunction with the Symphony Orchestra at the Great Hall of the University of Sydney which is planned for 25 March, 2021;  A theatrical presentation of the Nikos Kazanzakis play “Kapodistrias”; and a theatrical presentation of “Babylonia” by DK Byzantiou.
