The world tennis rankings have been updated after the end of the Australian Open.

Maria Sakkari, who was able to go all the way to the fourth round of the tournament for the first time in her career, climbed up to 21st place with 1,955 points, a career best for her.

Should she continue along this path, she could soon be knocking on the door of the world’s top 20 or even the best 15.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Stefanos Tsitsipas was able to hold on to his position as world number six with 4,745 points, despite his poor appearance and elimination in the third round at the hands of Milos Raonic.

This is mainly due to his winning the ATP Finals back in December, but also because the athletes who were beneath him didn’t do a lot better, with world number seven Alexander Zverev only making it to the semi-finals.

However, this does not give the 22-year-old any reason to rest on his laurels, as a similar appearance in the Wimbledon a few months from now will definitely see him lose his position and even his place within the world’s top 10.
