It is not the first time commentator Bettina Arndt has caused a stir with her comments on social media but this time it appears she has taken it too far.

The TV persona who claims to have trained as a clinical psychologist, has referenced comments by Detective Inspector Mark Thompson that police needed to keep an open mind as to whether the deaths of Hannah Clarke and her children were a case of a woman and children suffering domestic violence or a “husband being driven too far by issues”.

Inspector Thompson following these comments has been removed from the investigation.

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll publicly apologised for his views.

Arndt, who holds an Order of Australia medal, went on to call for Thomson’s reinstatement after praising him for raising the possibility that murder-suicide suspect Rowan Baxter was “driven” to commit the act.

On Friday, she also criticised feminists for “immediately judging a man in these circumstances as simply representing the evil violence that is in all men”.

Arndt’s endorsement of these hurtful comments have raised severe criticism from social media users not to mention several politicians, including Victoria’s Health Minister Jenny Mikakos.

“I’ve avoided giving you the attention you crave but you are an absolute disgrace. As our nation grieves the tragic murder of this woman and her children not only should you be stripped of our nation’s highest honour but you should STFU,” Mikakos wrote on Twitter.

She was, of course, not the only one outraged by those views; Senator Hanson-Young went as far as to call on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to condemn Arndt.

“There is no excuse for burning your own children alive. None,” she said on Twitter.

Liberal MP Tim Smith has too agreed call for Bettina Arndt to be stripped of her Order of Australia medal.
