Two Greek passengers who were aboard the cruise ship ‘Diamond Princess’ that was quarantined following Covid-19 (coronavirus as renamed by WHO) fears have been returned to Greece.

“Following concerted action by the government, two Greek citizens who were in Japan were repatriated today. On Friday, February 21st, the two Greeks boarded a special chartered aircraft of the Italian Government in Tokyo, along with other European citizens, and landed at the Pratica Di Mare military air base in Rome. There, they received a medical certificate from the National Public Health Organization, following the special protocol,” the Greek Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The Greek citizens landed at the military airport of Eleusis via a Greek military aircraft on Saturday.

Following their repatriation, they were transferred by specially trained personnel from the National Emergency Assistance Center to the Athens General Hospital for Thoracic Diseases ‘Sotiria’.

According to the official report, they show no symptoms and they were screened in both Japan and Italy, however, they will need to remain in preventive quarantine and under medical supervision for 14 days.

Meanwhile, Italy reported its first Covid-19 deaths on Friday and Saturday respectively.
