The ‘Feast of the Tavros’ – or Bull Fiesta – which takes place in Lesbos every year was revived on 23 February in the Antipodes.
Celebrated with festive cheer by the parish of Agios Charalambos at Waldheim Road in Bayswater, those who attended enjoyed the revival of the original folk custom centring around a bull sacrifice.
The feast involves the adornment of a bull with wreaths of flowers, in commemoration of Agios Haralambos. It takes place at the mountain of Tavros which attendants reach on horseback.

The festival includes rituals of ancient times with the bull sacrifice, a purification process, horse races and traditional dancing. It has been celebrated by Christians in its current form since the mid-18th century.
