The carnival capers of Apokries could not be missing from Eaton Mall, Oakleigh.

Members of the Manasis dance group had a bit of fun for a while by masquerading and bringing to life Greek traditions.

Apart from dressing up as priests, the dancers also had a bit of fun by reviving the century-old tradition of the Tyrnavos’ carnival rooted in ancient Greek traditions to honour the god of wine, Dionysos. Known as ‘burani’ (meaning local fiesta), the local carnival has many phallic symbols to symbolise reproduction and birth.
