The major shareholder of Olympiacos, Evangelos Marinakis, has been released from quarantine after two tests for the coronavirus both came back negative.

Following his release, the chairman of the Piraeus club released a public statement, explaining how his days in isolation went by, going on to thank the doctors – which he called “heroes in green and white” – and everyone else for their assistance.

He said that everyone overcome this trial by joining together in solidarity.

A few days later and in response to the annual celebration of the Greek Independence Day of 25 March, which is also the businessman’s name day, Mr Marinakis released a second message through social media:

“The Revolution of 1821 marks the sacrifices of all Greeks against their oppressors up until the conquest of their freedom and the start of the Hellenic Government. Unity and communion in trying times, characteristics that set us apart as a people, must play a major part once again just as they did on 25 March 1821, during this very difficult period that our nation is going through. I’m confident that we will make it through once again.”
