It’s official – the most popular person in Greece is the face of the country’s strict anti-Covid-19 measures, Sydney-born pathologist Sotiris Tsiodras who heads the team in charge of containing the spread of the virus in Greece.

A recent poll by Marc for Alpha TV found that a huge 94 percent of people polled had a positive view of him.

It is a view echoed by the French daily newspaper Le Figaro who called him the “new beloved” of Greeks.

The second most “beloved” is another leading figure in Greece’s response to Covid-19, Nikos Hardalias, the deputy minister for civil protection.

Mr Hardalias is seen daily when he appears at 6pm to present briefings on the course of the pandemic and is viewed by 66.7 percent of the poll respondents. He is popularity is at 84,3 per cent.
