There were 73 new COVID-19 infections recorded overnight in Victoria as the state continues to have double-digit increases for the 15th straight day.

Following the difficult decision to lock down 10 postcodes, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has warned that a state-wide lockdown may occur if the current outbreaks are not contained.

Three of the new infections recorded overnight were in hotel quarantine, nine were linked to outbreaks already taking place, 19 were found during routine tests and 42 are still being investigated.

“It is pleasing that there is some sense of stability to these numbers. We are finding new cases but there are the beginnings of some consistency,” Mr Andrews said.

“That is obviously better than other options where we might see doubling and doubling again.”
