On Sunday the Greek government announced that it will be shutting its borders to Serbian nationals from 6 July until 15 July.

After a surge of COVID-19 cases emerged in Belgrade, Serbia declared a state of emergency and reimposed some restrictions to slow the spread.

Although Greece is relying heavily on tourism to keep the country afloat financially, government spokeswoman Aristotelia Peloni noted that they are constantly keeping an eye on updates to ensure public safety.

“The government, in coordination with relevant authorities, constantly analyses and evaluates data, in order to open up to foreign visitors without compromising public health,” Ms Peloni said in a statement on Sunday.

Greece reopened borders from 1 July after managing to contain the spread of the virus with an early lock down period. The current count of cases sits at a little over 3,500.
