Victoria has recorded 191 new cases of coronavirus overnight, the largest single-day increase in the state, bringing the number of active cases to 772.

The possibility of further lockdowns are being discussed after a meeting held in the Crisis Council Cabinet earlier today. If the virus continues to spread, there is a high possibility that more postcodes could have restrictions reimposed. The most concerning is that 154 of these cases are still under investigation, with just 37 linked back to known outbreaks and none associated with hotel quarantine.

Of the new cases that have been traced 13 are connected to these towers, bringing the total to 69, 12 are linked to the Al-Taqwa College outbreak, four new cases have been linked to the Northern Hospital in Epping, one case linked to Aitken Hill Primary School in Craigieburn. The remaining new cases are linked to existing family clusters in Truganina, Patterson Lakes/Lysterfield, Fawkner and Sunshine West. A new case has also been confirmed in a staff member at the Assisi Aged Care facility in Rosanna. The staff member did not work while infectious. Widespread testing of staff and residents at the facility will begin today.

35 cases of coronavirus are in hospital, including nine in intensive care.

In recent days, the City of Wyndham, has recorded a spike in new cases, but restrictions have not yet been imposed to any postcodes in the area.

At the moment, 12 postcodes covering 39 Melbourne suburbs are under stage-3 restrictions whilst 9 public housing towers are in complete lockdown since Saturday night.

On Monday two men died in hospital from COVID-19, one in his 90s and the other in his sixties bringing the state’s death toll to 22.

From tonight midnight, all Victorians are banned from entering NSW. Permits will be available from the Service NSW website early this evening, just hours before the NSW-Victoria border shuts.
