Premier Daniel Andrews on Saturday announced 466 new COVID-19 cases.

The death toll has climbed to 193 for Victoria with 12 new deaths, including one man in his 30s, two men in their 70s, two men and three women in their 80s and four women in their 90s. Six of the deaths were related to aged care. The national death toll is at 278.

Mr Andrews said there were 7,808 active infections in Victoria with 988 healthcare workers affected, and 44 COVID-19 cases in intensive cares of which 29 are on ventilators.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said cases are now stabilising after Wednesday’s record 750 cases with the daily number now around 500 and 500 cases.

He said it could take more than a week to see the positive results of stage four restrictions.

There are fears also that Victorians could be left without medicine, alcohol and school supplies as the lockdown goes into affect.
