Victoria’s COVID-19 figures on Wednesday showed the deadliest day with 21 new deaths, however figures appear to be dropping with 278 new COVID-19 cases and eight deaths on Thursday.

The new figures bring the death toll in Victoria to 275 and 360 for Australia.

There are hopes that the virus-hit state may be flattening the curve with stage four restrictions which resulted in the shutting of all non essential businesses in Melbourne.

Despite the drop in numbers, Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews acknowledged the lockdown’s full effects would not be known until next week.

“We all know that a week is not the life-cycle of this virus,” Premier Andrews told reporters on Wednesday.
