Writers from diverse ethnic backgrounds are invited to enter the SBS Emerging Writers’ Competition which is aimed at uncovering developing emerging talent who can reflect the diversity of contemporary Australia.

The competition is an initiative of SBS Voices which is the broadcaster’ online platform.

The judges for the competition are Melissa Lucashenko, who won the 2019 Miles Franklin award for her novel Too Much Lip, and Benjamin Law, who is the creator and co-writer of the SBS TV program The Family Law and is the editor of Growing Up Queer in Australia.

The judges offer their tips on the competition website.

Entrants must be over 18 years old and their memoir pieces, between 1,000 and 2,000 words, must be on the topic: Growing up in diverse Australia.
