Victoria recorded 11 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday on the 11th consecutive day of daily infections beneath 50 new cases. The drop has been consistent and today’s number is the lowest since nine new infections were recorded on 16 June. Currently, Melbourne’s rolling 14-day average is at 34.4.

The decreasing numbers raise hopes that Melbourne may see restrictions ease ahead of schedule.

For the removal of Victoria’s curfew there needs to be a state-wide daily average of fewer than five cases over two weeks and less than five cases from an unknown source over a two-week period.

In order to ease lockdown measures from 28 September, metropolitan Melbourne will need to reach an average daily case rate of between 30 and 50 new cases over the preceding fortnight.

The two cases recorded on Monday concerned two women: one aged in her 80s and the other in her 100s.

From the new cases recorded on Monday, five are linked to known outbreaks and six are under investigation.
