New COVID-19 infections jumped up again from Monday morning’s 11 to 28 new cases overnight on Tuesday as well as three deaths, all of which were linked to aged care. The deaths included those of a woman in her 70s, a woman in her 90s and a woman in her 100s.

There are currently 32 active cases in the state’s aged care facilities which have been particularly struck by the crisis. There are 83 Victorians in hospitals with COVID – eight are in intensive care and five on a ventilator.

Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews said testing rates had in creased to 11,123 tests on Sunday.

The new cases came after Chief Medical Officer Nick Coatsworth said Victoria’s dropping numbers could result in an easing of restrictions earlier than expected.

Premier Andrews did not give any details regarding this.

“I don’t want to be coy in any way. Sunday is some days off. That isn’t settled. That is a matter that will be informed by the data I have just reported, plus tomorrow’s numbers, and so on and so forth. We will have – accompanying that, on every conceivable platform – we will have as much information out there as possible. If there is any specific questions you want us to chase up, I am happy to do that. We can chase up specific issues,” he said.

On Sunday, Premier Andrews had said that “significant announcements” would be forthcoming as we enter the 30-50 band.
