Maria Vamvakinou sent a message of support to Jenny Mikakos following her resignation as health minister:
My thoughts are with Jenny today. The very difficult decision she has made today reflects her Integrity and her decency.
Jenny has indeed been one of the hardest working members of parliament and many of her colleagues have already affirmed and acknowledged this in their statements today.
Jenny Mikakos has dedicated her adult working life to the service of her constituents and to the Australian Labor Party. She has been every bit the hardworking, passionate and capable person I first met, all those years ago, at Thornbury High School when as a Modern Greek Language teacher, I taught a young, intelligent and forceful young girl who was one of my star pupils. That she and I reconnected years later in politics is a special footnote in my own political journey. Jenny has earned every bit of her success throughout her career and she deserves to be recognised for her achievements.
