Greece’s Foreign Ministry condemned the vandalism of a mural of the Greek flag on the island of Kastellorizo on Saturday, in an announcement on Sunday.

A drone flew over the island playing Turkish anthems before splashing red paint on a Greek flag.

“Such unacceptable actions aim at undermining the de-escalation prospects of the tension between the two countries,” the Foreign Ministry said in its announcement, adding that “we are expecting Turkish authorities to immediately condemn and investigate the incident in order for those responsible to be led to justice.”

Turkish Karar TV showed video footage from a drone featuring the vandalised mural, while the Greek media reported that “100 kilos of red  paint had been thrown on the Greek flag”.
