Victoria confirmed 14 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday and no new deaths.
Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews has said it is “unlikely” that lockdown restrictions would lift on Sunday, 19 October, as initially planned.
“I think it unlikely that we will be able to move as fast as we would like to have done next Sunday,” Mr Andrews said.
“I think it is unlikely that we will be able to take as eager steps as we would have hoped.”
It is likely that some steps would be taken to ease restrictions, however these are not expected to be significant.
“It is in no way warranted for people to be despondent or for people to lose any sense of hope, this strategy is working, but you have got to do it properly,” he said.
“We can’t have a situation where because we wanted to be over, we pretend that it is. We want to have defeated the second wave, we pretend we have when in fact we haven’t.
“We are very close but we haven’t quite achieved that yet.”

The fact that there were no deaths was a good sign, and the third day in three months without any new figures added to the death tally.
Six of the new cases recorded today are linked to known outbreaks, eight are being investigated.
Active cases dropped to 195 marking the first day that Victoria’s active COVID-19 cases have dropped to below 200 since 26 June.
