Greek-Australian boxer George Kambosos Jr is celebrating a much deserved victory over Welshman Lee Selby last Saturday.

The pair competed in the IBF lightweight world title eliminator at SSE Arena Wembley and triumphed 118-110 and 116-112 against a strange card of 115-114 from judge Phil Edwards in a split decision despite the fight looking fairly obvious in Kambosos favour.

“I told you I’d do it, I’m too fast, too strong, too aggressive, too smart, too powerful – everything,” Kambosos told Sky Sports in a post match interview.

33-year-old former featherweight world champion Selby was not up to scratch, landing only a few of his jabs, giving Kambosos the opportunity to pick apart his strategy and begin dominating from about midway.

Kambosos sent powerful right hands to the body and some stellar left hooks, rocking Shelby at the end of the eighth round.

The fight went on for another four rounds, with Kambosos finishing full of energy and confidence after breaking down Shelby’s defenses.

The 27-year-old Australian is now awaiting to go up against Teofimo Lopez for the world title belt as his mandatory challenger.

It was only last month that Lopez beat the legendary Vasilily Lomachenko.

“World No.1, mandatory. Lopez, you know what it is now. Let’s do it Down Under. Two warriors, two lions, let’s go to war. Let’s do it – I want that fight,” Kambosos said.

Kambosos spent over six weeks away from his young family training out of Miami with Javiel Centeno.
