Young Greek Australian filmmaker Natalie Cunningham is seeing great success with her Greek-language documentary short film You Know What? I Love You, set to premiere as part of the 19th Anniversary Palm Springs International ShortFest. “It’s wonderful, obviously, to see how well the film is being received and I’m even more excited by the opportunity to see it screened as part of a major international festival like Palm Springs,” says Ms Cunningham. The short film, set in the filmmaker’s hometown of Melbourne, is based around the tight-knit relationship Ms Cunningham shares with her Greek-speaking grandmother. “Her courage in leaving her homeland behind, restarting her life from scratch in Australia, and overcoming all sorts of heartbreaking tragedies and adversities along the way is both humbling and inspiring,” says the filmmaker. “I think that wherever people might come from, the familial relationship at the core of the film is pretty universal.” You Know What? I Love You won two awards in 2012 including Best Master of Film and Television (Documentary) Production from Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts. The film is set to be screened on Saturday 22 June at Camelot Theatres, Palm Springs. The Palm Springs International Short Fest runs from June 18-24. For further information on You Know What?
