A man in his 30’s fired a shotgun at a large group of bikies at a busy shopping strip in Oakleigh in Melbourne’s east on Tuesday afternoon.
It is believed the subject of the firearms incident, well known in the area, deliberately targeted the large group of the Finks gang of up to 30 bikies, who had stopped at an Eaton St cafe around 3.15 pm, after attending a nearby funeral.
According to a witness, who did not want to be named, the man was screaming at the gang: “This is my territory, the Greeks run Oakleigh.”
After a verbal altercation he pulled out a gun from his car, firing twice in the air and hitting the shop’s awning.
Witnesses said that a young child and a female passenger who was also verbally abusing the bikies, were in the car. After the incident, the man sped off in what police believe was a 1986 white Holden Calais sedan.
No one was injured in the incident. Following the shooting the Finks gang members stayed at the restaurant for more than an hour.
Detectives from the Monash Crime Investigation Unit refused to comment on the incident, as the investigation is ongoing with an assistance from Taskforce Echo. The Police are now appealing for information.
