CLASS: CELEBRATING 200 YEARS – MODERN GREEK HISTORY
Greece celebrates 200 years since the struggle for independence to free her from Ottoman rule, began. The struggle for independence and democracy has been tumultuous and bloodied, and arguably at times she has enjoyed surprisingly little of either. This class will be delivered face-to-face at WEA Sydney. GREEK LEGENDS TRIBUTE
Celebrating 200 years of Greek Independence, the cream of Greek/Australian singers, dancers and musicians are coming together to pay tribute to the Greek musical icons of the past hundred years. The music of Mikis Theodorakis, Marinella, Kazandzidis, Dalaras, Alexiou and more are bought to life in a concert of epic proportions. The concert also pays homage to international artists, Vangelis, Nanna Mouskouri, Demis Roussos and the inimitable Maria Callas. Penny Pavlakis is joined by a 20 piece orchestra and an eight bouzouki spectacular. Also joining her will be Giorgios Malliaros, Carly Yelayiotis, Jemilly Pavlakis-Kalil and other guests.

BLOOD AND BONE
Meg McNena’s unforgettable WWII play about friendship won in Greece and Crete which stood through time is based on research and interviews with veterans. The play, directed by Demetra Giannakopoulos, is held in tribute to Anzacs Ned O’Leary, Jack Gallagher and Allan Simpson and their mates, Cretan and Greek allies and friends. MERAKI EXPRESS LIVE AT OUSSOU
The Habibi’s and Saray Iluminado Femmes come together to share a night of music story and songs from Bosnia and Greece at Bar Oussou’s Balkan Festival. From Sarajevo, Athins, Salonika and beyond. THE FIG TREE REPLANTED 
The Boite, together with the Hellenic Museum and Kadimah Jewish Cultural Centre, are delighted to co-present The Fig Tree Replanted, a live concert featuring a dozen world-class Australian performers from Greek, Jewish, Italian and other backgrounds. COMMEMMORATING 200 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE
As with other years the Hellenic RSL will hold a special Commemoration on the actual day, Thursday 25th March, beginning at Agios Eustathios at 9:30am, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Australian Hellenic Memorial at 12:00pm and wreath laying at the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance at 1:00pm. It is expected that a large number of Greek and Australian organisations will participate in the wreath laying ceremonies.

GREEK AUSTRALIAN MILK BARS AND CAFES: PAST AND PRESENT
Join an online panel discussion facilitated by Victoria Murray from Bathurst Library with the support of NSW Public Libraries Association. Leonard Janiszewski, historian and author of Greek Cafes and Milk Bars of Australia, will take us on a fascinating trip down memory lane sharing stories of the milk bar culture. Barbra Godfrey will also share her experiences as director of Parry’s Milk Bar, Caringbah, an iconic retro styled milk bar with a modern twist that is still successfully operating after 62 years.

GREEK FRINGE BOUZOUKI MASTER CLASS
This suite of masterclasses will take place every Monday throughout the month of February from 6:00pm – 7:30pm (AEST)/ 9am-10:30am (Greece) via zoom. Each week you will learn from a new master including Lefteris Tsikouridis, Fotis Vergopoulos, Vassilis Skoutas and Manolis Pappos. The program is geared towards three-stringed bouzouki players and students who are at a medium to advanced level.

GREEK FRINGE: EVRITIKI ZYGIA & KATERINA DOUKA
Evritiki Zygia is made up of five friends who share a passion for Thracian music. It consists of instruments deeply rooted in the tradition and mind of the Thracian locals with bagpipe, lyra, kaval and davul. Evritiki Zygia are collaborating with Katerina Douka who’s voice embodies Thracian traditions. She has a versatile repertoire from popular songs through to rebetika, but her Thracian roots and upbringing make her an authority on music from Northern Greece. Though the event can be accessed for free, we encourage you to support the artists by making a donation via PayPal.
