Melbourne’s famous Greek eatery reteamed with Greece’s tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas to relaunch the “Tsitsipas souvlaki” first created during the height of “Tsitsipasmania” in 2019.

The limited edition souvlaki will be available at Stalactites through to Wednesday, 24 February, for $17 and is made of lamb gyros, tomato, tzatziki, onion, mint, crumbled feta, chips and fresh pomegranate.

Donations will be split amongst Melbourne-based charity SecondBite for those struggling to afford food and Greece’s Together for the Child (Mazi gia to Paidi) which is close to the Greek player’s heart.

All the sales will offer relief to those affected by COVID-19 and food insecurity.

Last year, the proceeds of Tsitsipas’ signature souvlaki went towards Australian bushfire relief.

“I feel at home in Melbourne and I love being welcomed by the Greek community here. All throughout quarantine I’d been craving a Stalactites souvlaki so I’m excited to finally be here with my team and family,” Tsitsipas said.

It is not the first time that the famous eatery has named a souvlaki after a sports hero. The tradition first began in 2006, however Stalactites co-owner Nicole Papasavas states that “it seems important now more than ever to support our community and we encourage everyone to come down and try the souvlaki”.
